We are
excited you have chosen to participate in Cross Country during the Fall 2012
season! Attached you will find a tentative schedule. Throughout the season we will continue to
communicate any
changes.
Attire
- Please
arrive dressed and ready to participate. You will need shirt, shorts,
supportive shoes and to
bring your own water bottle.
Shoes
- Although it is not expected for you to go out and purchase new shoes specific for running, not wearing the appropriate shoes can result in injury. Stores such as Elite Feet in Lapeer and Complete Runner in Burton, specialize In finding a shoe fit for your individual needs. Complete Runner, for example, will watch how you walk to determine how you land on your feet and what type of shoe you need.
Physicals
- A physical is REQUIRED in order to practice and compete. Please have your physical completed and in the office prior to the first day of practice. A physical can be conducted by your physician or they are being offered on Wednesday, June 6th at 5:00 p.m. at the McLaren-Lapeer Regional Physical Therapy Center for $20.00.
Pay-to-Participate
- Pay to participate forms are also due no more than two weeks after practice date. Pay-to-Participate is a one-time participation fee to play sports for the entire year, which is based on income. Physical & Pay-to-Play forms can be obtained in the office or your doctor will fill out their own physical form.
Eligibility
- You must maintain your GPA to maintain your eligibility, see the Student Code of Conduct for eligibility requirements. If you are ineligible you are required to attend meets to support your team members.
Practice/Schedule
- All parents are expected to pick their child up on time from both practice and games. Students are dismissed from practice at Rolland-Warner at 5:15 PM. For all away games, on the bus ride home, students will begin calling parents to notify them that they will be back at Rolland-Warner within 20 minutes. Coach does expect students to be picked up within 15 minutes of the bus having arrived back at school. Late pick-ups will cause an inconvenience for everyone and their families.
Summer
Conditioning
- "Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win." ~ Tom Flemig’s Boston Marathon training sign on his wall.
- The best way to prepare yourself for the season is by practicing during the off-season (summer). This could include, but is not limited to, running with a parent or friend, and/or various cross training activities such as biking, swimming, soccer, etc. In addition, information about summer conditioning with the high school teams is available upon your request. Please see Mrs. Prill for more information.
